Patient Convenience That Benefits You

Online forms can make your patients, your staff—
and you—happier

We manage many aspects of our lives online now, such as shopping and banking. It’s habit forming because it’s convenient. People expect this convenience in other aspects of their lives as well, including health care. You can answer this need by providing online forms for your patients. Your patients will be grateful and while you’re providing convenience for them, you’ll also be helping yourself.

You can deploy a wide range of forms on your website that fulfill many purposes, such as new patient registration, patient history, insurance information, patient privacy notification, non-urgent questions to providers, and appointment and prescription requests. There are two ways to provide forms online. You can submit forms to NorthPoint Domain in Microsoft Word or .pdf format, which we can post on your site. Patients can then download, print, and complete the forms, and bring them to their office visit.

Online forms help your patients and you. Patients can complete forms at home where they have access to personal data, such as the names and dosages of medications and insurance information. By arriving at their appointment with paperwork they have completed beforehand, waiting room time can be reduced. By presenting more accurate and complete information, less appointment time may be spent verifying the accuracy of the information.

NorthPoint Domain offers electronic secure (HIPAA-compliant) forms through our Secure Messaging Center (SMC). Offering forms via SMC enables patients to enter information securely and electronically, which eliminates the need for staff to manually enter it. Because SMC forms are completed online, it also reduces the risk that office or clinical staff will need to decipher the patient’s handwriting. NorthPoint’s SMC offers several standard forms, but you can also customize your forms to meet your specific needs.

Once you have posted forms online, make sure you promote them so patients are aware that they are available. Use your “on-hold message” to inform patients about online forms, list their benefits, and encourage their use. It is also important to remind your staff to tell patients about this option. As more patients begin using online forms, you may find, as many of our clients have, that the number of incoming calls to your staff decreases. Equally important, as patients visit your site to locate and complete forms, it increases your website’s visibility to search engines, which drives even more traffic to your site.
